Report from International Health Co-operative Organisation (IHCO)

Spreading the Wings
After its first year of existence, the IHCO is now spreading its wings and
is preparing to take off.

The General Meeting in Geneva marked a significant change in the
organisation. After having conducted thorough internal discussions at
the Geneva Meeting on the forms for the organisation itself,  the IHCO
took a big step towards the actual tasks for the future.

New Board
The IHCO now has 12 member organisations, and one of the main
purposes of the 2nd General Meeting was to broaden the basis of the
organisation by electing three new board members, one from each of
the regions.

The Asian/Pacific region, however, chose to postpone the nomination of
a candidate until a future meeting. Thus the elections were limited to
representatives from the American and European regions.

Ismael Roldan of FEMEC, Columbia, and Per-Olof Jonsson of Swedcoop,
Sweden, were elected to the Board.

Three Regions
The three regions reported on their activities, where the formal creation of a
regional organisation for the Americas is of particular importance. The
region has an office in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The Asian and Pacific region has also formed a regional organisation,
though strictly speaking it is not a formal  IHCO regional organisation yet.

However, the IHCO Chairman, Shoji Kato, hopes it will be so in the
