Tadeusz Kowalak is Professor Emeritus of Social Policy at the
University of Warsaw, Poland. Since 1990, he has been acting as
consultant to the Vice-Marshal of the Polish Senate, Mr. Josef
Slisz. He has also been working with the World Bank on various
projects concerning the restructuring of the Polish Co-operative
Movement. In the 1970s, as Director of the Co-operative Research
Institute in Warsaw, Professor Kowalak organized several
international conferences and seminars with FAO, ILO, UNIDO and
the European Office of the United Nations as well as with the
Swedish Co-operative Centre and the Danish Supreme Co-operative
Council on the development of co-operative organizations in
Europe andthe Third World. During the last 20 years, Mr. Kowalak
lectured at the universities of Muenster, Giessen, Marburg,
Koeln, Stuttgart and Nuerenberg in Germany, at the Co-operative
Colleges in Loughborough, UK and Paris, France and at the Ecole
des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Montreal, Canada. The results
of his work have been published in over 200 articles and nine
books published in Poland, Germany, France, Japan and Canada. He
has also written extensive reports and studies pertaining to
co-operative legislation, agriculture and industrial
co-operatives.
