Chinese delegation visits Canada

A six-member delegation from the China Association for Inter-national
Exchange for Personnel (CAIEP), All China Federation of Supply and
Marketing Co-operatives (ACFSMC), the Ministries of Agriculture and
Finance visited agricultural co-ops in Canada.  The Canadian Co-operative
Association sponsored the exchange between Chinese and Canadian co-
operatives.  Guo Yong Kang, Agricultural Co-op Development Advisor,
ICA ROAP, coordinated the visit.

The Chinese delegation visited agricultural co-ops, credit unions, livestock
marketing centre, production co-ops, consumer co-ops and Centre of Co-
operative Studies  at the University of Saskatchewan and exchanged
experience with co-operative leaders, managers, farm managers and
government officials on member relations and democratic management,
co-op legislation, co-op development strategy and discussed with
Canadian co-ops about personnel exchange and co-operation programme in
1998.  It was agreed that the CCA would send a delegation to China in
April 1998 in order to further strengthen co-operation between Chinese
and Canadian co-operatives.

De-briefing at the CCA office in Ottawa  was organised by the Director of
International Development at CCA. Robby Tulus, ICA Regional Director
and Guo Yong Kang made presentations about the ICA's new development
programme and results of the delegation's visit.
