ICA to hold Co-operative Think Tank Consortium

The ICA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific is organising a
Co-operative Think Tank Consortium in Manila from 18-23
February, 1998.

The venue of the Consortium will be the Galleria Suites Hotel, 1, ADB
Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

It is expected that the ICA's partners in co-operative Development like
Canadian International Development Agency, New South Wales
Government of Australia, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and
Fisheries, Japan, International Labour Organization and the ICA's
Regional Member Organisations like All China Federation of Supply
and Marketing Federation, JA-Zenchu, Japan, Institute for the Development
of Agricultural Co-operation in Asia (IDACA), Japan, Indian Farmers'
Fertilizer Co-operative, National Confederation of Co-operatives Ltd. and
the Co-operative Union of the Philippines and representatives of many
other ICA member organisations are expected to participate at
the Consortium.

The Consortium is to discuss several issues including ` The Global ICA
policy and its new strategy', `Good Governance and Civil Society', `Trade
Networking through and among Co-operatives', `Importance of
Agricultural Development in Asia and the Pacific', `Impact of current
economic crisis in the region and ways co-operatives adjust to the changing
environment', and `International co-operative development agenda:
sustaining relevance of the co-operative model in a changing local and
global environment' etc. A special session will be held sysnthesizing the
ICA's new Co-operative Identity Statement and Value Based Professional

It is expected that the ICA's regional stakeholders will present their
perspectives on the ICA's Perspective Plan for the Region.

ICA member organisations in the Region are requested to send
representatives to the Think Tank Consortium and intimate the ICA
or NATCCO in the Philippines on the requirements of accommodation
and their flight schedules.
