Parliamentarians call for reforms in co-op sector
Members of Parliament have urged the government to implement reforms in the co-operative sector to enunciate a clear and coherent co-operative policy.

The call was made at a meeting of Parliamentarians from several political parties like Congress, BJP, Shiv Sena, Samta Party, Lok Shakti, etc., including current and former ministers on 15th July, 1998 in New Delhi. The meeting also called for raising the import duties to moderate imports of major agricultural commodities produced in India.

The meet was attended among others by Environment Minister Suresh Prabhu, former Lok Sabha speaker Shivraj Patil, former agriculture minister Balram Jakhar,  Mohan Dhariva, S. Mallikarjunaiah, Varghese Kurien, etc. The meeting was organised by the Co-operative Initiative Project, Anand, India on 15th July, 1998, in New Delhi.

Co-operative Essay Competition awards presented
The National Institute of Co-operative Management, Gandhi-nagar, promoted by the Gujarat State Co-op Bank Ltd. had organized, in collaboration with Jowher Managerial and Financial Services Private Ltd.(MANFIN) a national level Essay Competition on Human Resource Management in SCBs, DCCBs and PACSs - Challenges and Innovationsí during May, 1998.

Entries submitted by the following have been awarded prizes:
Mr. S.S. Parulekar, NABARD, Pune, 1st Prize (Rs.5,000);
Mr. P. Balakrishnan, Tamil Nadu State Co-op Bank, Chennai, 2nd Prize (Rs.4000);
Mr. S.K. Mishra, Fishcopfed, New Delhi, 3rd prize(Rs.3000).
Consolation prizes of Rs.1000/- were awarded to 5 others who participated.

NCCT offers various training programmes on Co-op Management for 1998-1999
The National Council for Co-operative Training (NCCT) of the National Co-operative Union of India, which is the apex co-operative organisation in India, are offering numerous training programmes, both short-term and long-term, through their 20 regional training centres and the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Co-operative Management, Pune, for the year 1998-99.

These courses covers management training on all sectors of co-operatives for co-operative leaders and employees of co-operatives in India and abroad.
