Nepal holds national women's forum
A national women's forum was organized in Kathmandu on June 11-12, 1998 by the National Co-operative Federation of Nepal.
One hundred and ten women co-op leaders participated in the two-day Forum. At the inaugural function, over 200 people, including participants, took part.
The Forum was inaugurated by Rt.Hon. Deputy Prime Minister Ms.Sailaja Acharya, who was the chief guest, praised the efforts of the women, saying that the women need a lot of efforts and stamina to fight various elements in the government and other sectors to get their right places in co-ops and the society.
Mr. S.R. Sharma, Managing Director of NCF, spoke on women's participation in co-ops, the Nepalese situation and the past, present and future programmes in this direction.
Ms. Anita Manchanda, Director of National Co-operative Union of India, who also represented ICA, spoke on behalf of ICA ROAP and read a message from Ms. Yukiko Yama-moto, Gender Programme Advisor of the ICA ROAP. Ms. Manchanda detailed the activities of NCUI and ICA in gender intergation front and contributed actively in the sessions.
The Forum was chaired by Mr. Deepak Baskota, Chairman of NCF. Ms. Mina
Pandey, Hon. Minister of Women and Social Welfare, was the chief guest
of the closing session. Ms.Kamala Pant, Hon.Asst. Minister
was also present at the function.
At the closing session some participants felt that the Forum was a good start. Speeches also made supporting the cause of women.
