8th Rural Women Leaders' Training Programme

The 8th Training Course for Rural Women Leaders of Agricultural Co-operatives in Asia was organised by the ICA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific with the financial support of the Government of Japan at IDACA, Tokyo, August 24 to September 14, 1998.

Six participants from Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka attended the programme.  The main objective of the programme is to encourage rural women to organise themselves with a view to improve living conditions of the farm women in the Region. The experiences of the Women's Associ-ations of the Japanese Agricultural Co-ops in the field of better living are of great relevance to the movemnets in the Region.

The participants, besides their classroom work, also observed the JA-WA activities in Niigata prefecture and also took part in the 3rd Asian Rural  Women Farm Leaders conference held during 26 Aug to 6 Sept. 1998.
