Workshop on Joint Buying Strategies
The ICA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and the JCCU have organised a Joint Buying Strategy Workshop in Bangkok during 5-8 August, 1998.
Forty participants from 8 countries attended the Workshop and discussed Joint Buying among Consumer co-ops.
Mr. Takeyoshi Fujioka, Executive Director, JCCU made the key presentation - Concept of Joint Buying - based on the rich experience gained by JCCU in Japan. Mr. Fujioka, in his pre-sentation emphasized the need to innovate the way of doing business in co-operatives, especially under competitive open market situation in countries in the region.
Various case studies and group discussions followed the presen-tation and finally the workshop reached a consensus on the relevance of joint buying, especially in the current economic situation, the pre-conditions and mechanism of joint buying, problems and constraints and their solutions.
All sessions were organised in a very participatory manner and every one contributed to the workshop as a facilitator or a coordinator apart from being participants.
The workshop requested the ICA and its counterpart, JCCU to take up follow-up actions, including publi-shing a guideline for joint buying.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. W.U. Herath, a Consultant, who was the former ICA ROAP Consumer Advisor and Ms. Yukiko Yamamoto of ICA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
