International Organisation for Consumer Co-operative Distributive Trade
International Organisation for Consumer Co-operative Distributive Trade is a specialized organisation of the International Co-operative Alliance. INTER-COOP which was founded in 1971 is an association of 10 national consumer federations in 9 countries (Finland, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom).
The objective of INTER-COOP is to promote commercial co-operation between its member organisations and thus to increase the competitive power of the co-operative retailers in the market place.
The activities of INTER-COOP serve to promote exchange of know-how and
information among member retail organisations and they take place primarily
in working groups, for example : "Discount Stores", "Co-op Retailers","Logistics"
and "Green Issues and Ethics". In addition to these working groups, ad-hoc
groups are set up from time to time to deal with the issues that do not
naturally fall within the scope of the permanent working groups, one recent
example being an ad-hoc group on "Retail Security" issues.
INTER-COOP further organises an education and management development programme for senior managers of member organisations. The programme, "Strategic Issues in Co-op Retailing", consists of a series of seminars and lectures in three modules held in three different countries. It takes delegates through a number of disciplines and cases related to retailing, logistics, strategic issues and marketing.
ICA is an independent non-governmental association which unites, represents and serves co-operatives worldwide. Founded in 1895, it now has 232 national members in 93 countries, plus four international members.
