Issues Forums - The UWCC is beginning a series of forums on current issues for cooperatives. Our goal is to provide a forum for information exchange and sharing of innovative solutions to the challenges and opportunities within the cooperative community.
Director Leadership Workshops - In partnership with the Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives and the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives, the UWCC provides focused programs that enable our cooperatives to thrive in a dynamic and competitive business environment. The Director Leadership workshops are a series of workshops for directors and managers covering core skills. You will network with other co-op leaders, discover new ideas to solving problems and gain the valuable skills
that you need to make effective decisions.
Farmer Cooperatives Conference - The UW Center for Cooperatives established the Annual Farmer Cooperatives Conference in 1998 with the objective of providing co-op directors, managers, government, and academia, information on major trends and issues impacting agricultural cooperatives. We look for presenters and topics that stimulate critical thinking and the exchange of ideas. Farm Foundation helped initiate the very first conference and continue to provide generous funding every year as a conference partner.
Previous Farmer Cooperatives Conferences have addressed the following issues:
Brown Bag Series: UWCC has successfully launched a new initiative called the Brown Bag Series. The series highlights informal presentations as a way to share new research on cooperatives in an easy-to-use and easy-to- understand format. The idea is to use the research to generate a stimulating discussion on cooperative issues.
On November 18th -- Sergiy Shcherbyna discussed "Co-ops and Agribusiness in Ukraine." A Fullbright Scholar, Mr. Shcherbyna is with UWCC on a 9-month sabbatical from the Economics and Law Institute in Chernivts, Ukraine. You can view an html version of his presentation here and can download a pdf version here.
In-service Training - These workshops provide extension agents with current information about the changing cooperative structure. Our last in-service training in 2002 connected extension agents to resources that will help them assist existing cooperatives and producer and community groups interested in starting cooperatives.
Customized Training Programs - UWCC also tailors programs to fit an individual co-op's needs. The Center offers training programs in the following areas: strategic planning, board & management relationships, evaluation and reviewed governance structures.
