Center Links to International Cooperative Conference, Hosts International Groups
Organizers from the Javeriana University in
Bogota, Colombia invited UWCC's Brent Hueth to participate in their conference on
"Public Policy, Rural Development, and Cooperatives" held in
Cartagena, Colombia, July 24-25, 2012.
The conference brought together participants from the Americas and
Europe to discuss the public policy frameworks that support cooperative
business activity in the respective countries.
Several international groups have visited the
Center recently, in order to learn about successes and challenges in each
other’s cooperative sectors. A delegation of 11 dairy cooperatives from Argentina
visited the United States this spring to meet with leaders from industry,
government, and universities. Led
by Alejandro Galetto, the group included representatives from
SanCor, Argentina's largest dairy cooperative, and 10 other smaller
cooperatives that account for about 18% of Argentina's
total milk production.
The delegration was exploring U.S. examples of collaborations
between cooperatives that might be applicable to the Argentinian dairy
sector.
A three-person delegation from Indonesia
visited the Center in September, as part of a fact-finding trip to learn about
the U.S. cooperative sector, good governance practices and challenges, and the
statutory and legal tools that support cooperative operations.
