Presentation at Great Lakes Chapter
Meeting of NSAC Builds Bridge with Future Practitioner Partner
Brent Hueth presented preliminary results from
the UWCC's on-going Cooperative Business Study at the National Society of
Accountants for Cooperatives Great Lakes Chapter meeting on June
14-15. Providing an overview of current
Center research efforts, he also discussed the need for accountant practitioner
involvement in upcoming research efforts.

Research-based information on cooperatives can
provide the resources to improve cooperative performance, by first better
understanding how cooperatives are different from other business structures,
and why those differences are important. Important cooperative differences may not be reflected on the balance
sheet, so understanding behavioral differences in governance is important
too. As the Center’s cooperative
governance study winds up, developing the next phase on financial best
practices with the involvement of NSAC would strengthen the research effort.
NSAC has expressed interest in developing a
relationship, and is working with UWCC to also explore educational programs
that the Center could support.
