Center Receives Generous Gifts for Programs

The Center for Cooperatives recently received major gifts for education and research from CHS and CoBank. The gifts will support graduate education on cooperatives, research on the impact of cooperatives, and two new initiatives.

The first initiative will take advantage of the extensive resources at UW-Madison to support international internships at cooperative enterprises. These work experiences will broaden students’ understanding of global cooperative activities.

The second initiative will fund curriculum development on cooperative topics by faculty across the UW-Madison campus. It is intended to expose more students to the significance of cooperatives in society and the economy.

These gifts will have a lasting impact on the Center’s capacity to fulfill its mission of “fostering critical thinking and understanding about cooperatives".

Save the Date! 16th Annual Farmer Cooperatives Conference Nov 7-8, 2013

Another informative and thought-provoking conference is expected on November 7-8, 2013, when the 16th Annual Farmer Cooperatives Conference returns to Minneapolis. The conference will build on the success of the 2012 event, which was attended by over 160 agricultural producers and other cooperative professionals.

The 2012 conference examined the opportunities and challenges for sustaining cooperative businesses into the future.
